Dukunoo Jamaican Kitchen
Many have asked why the word “Dukunoo”? What does it mean? It may be a strange word to some, but it is steeped in the history of the West African diaspora. Dukunoo means “sweet thing,” when directly translated. Depending on where your family hails from or the way you pronounce it, your recognition of this sweet staple may be a tad bit different. But, no matter what, its key ingredients are the same. This sweet treat will always be a starchy pudding-like consistency wrapped in a leaf, tied, and steamed.
When opening Dukunoo, co-owners and husband/wife duo Rodrick Leighton and Shrusan Gray, M.D., both of Jamaican descent, were determined to create a restaurant that not only represented their Jamaican lifestyle and spices, but also welcomed the irie vibes that Wynwood was lacking.
At Dukunoo, you can expect an elevated level of service with exquisite freshly prepared meals presented on proper dinnerware, and never in a Styrofoam box.
The restaurant features indoor and outdoor patio dining, full bar and bottle service, hookah, LIVE music by house DJ’s playing Reggae, Soca, Dance Hall and Hip-Hop, in addition to opportunities for corporate partnerships and private events/catering.
When you come fi di food, our warm and friendly staff will greet you with a smile and show you what real hospitality means.
