The noteworthy achievement occurred despite a severe cross-country storm that blanketed busy Chicago O’Hare International Airport with snow, resulting in over 900 flight delays. Remarkably, only three flights were canceled at O’Hare on that Sunday.
Even with adverse weather conditions, American Airlines reported an unprecedented 6.5 million customers during the Thanksgiving holiday, establishing a new record for the airline. Sunday emerged as America’s busiest day, boasting more than 6,100 departures.
Meanwhile, United Airlines experienced a surge in travel with a record high of 3.2 million passengers between November 17 and November 23, leading up to Thanksgiving Day. The impressive numbers underscore the resilience of holiday travel demand despite challenges posed by inclement weather.
